We stock a full line of untreated Cotton Duck and Artist Canvas fabrics - Number ducks, Army ducks and Single-Filled ounce ducks in weights from 7 oz. per sq. yd. to 24 oz. per sq. yd. Widths range from 36" to 144".

AAA-grade cotton ducks

Number Ducks

Woven from yarns that consist of two or more twisted/plied threads in the warp (length) direction and filling (side to side) direction of the duck cloth. Historically, these types of ducks were given "numbers" (i.e. #12, #8) which designated the weight of the cloth. The higher the number, the lighter the weight. (See chart below.)

Army Ducks

Woven from yarns that consist of two twisted/plied yarns in the warp direction and one or two plied yarns in the filling direction of the cloth. Army duck yarns consist of thinner threads and therefore are usually lighter weight and can be woven more tightly than a Number duck. The term "Army duck" is from their specified uses by the US Government in the 1900s for US Army Equipage.

Single-Filled Oz. Ducks

Usually woven from thin single yarns woven in pairs in the warp direction and thicker single yarns in the filling direction – thus the term "Single-Filled duck." Oz. ducks and Single-Filled ducks are usually interchangeable terms.

Our art school and artist customers primarily use the following styles of untreated canvases: #10, #12 and 10 oz. and 7 oz. Single-Filled ducks. These styles can be put up on 25 or 50-yard rolls for easy handling and reduced shipping expense via UPS ground.
